Kent Floral Art is run by a Council which meets 3 times a year near Faversham. The Council is made up of a representatives from each club and the Executive who are charged with the day to day running of the Area. The Executive comprises, the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, the Chairman of the JDSE&P committee and four other representatives, one from each of the North, South, East and West sections of the Area. Meet the Executive:
President - Sue ThompsonSusan (Sue) has been an active member of Paddock Wood Flower Club for over 35 years during which time she has been Treasurer, Secretary, Chairman and also helped run the sales table and the club competitions. Recently she also became a member of Sevenoaks Flower Club and joined the Committee in 2024. Sue has held various Area roles: West Kent Clubs Representative, Speakers’ Representative, Demonstrators’ Representative. She has also been on the Area Show committee for 5 Area Shows as Show Secretary and Competition's Secretary. Sue was an Area Demonstrator for 10 years, only recently hanging up her Demonstrator’s scissors; she enjoyed her time visiting many clubs in Kent plus many others in Essex, Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire as well as going “international”with a trip to a club in Spain. She is proud to have had the honour of arranging flowers in both the Quire Stands and at the High Altar in Westminster Abbey for various special services and was part of a team designing and decorating the Yellow Room at Leeds Castle for a flower festival. When not busy with Flower Clubs Sue loves spending time with her four grandchildren, visiting art galleries and gardens, and being involved with various interest groups (including flower arranging, of course!) of the local u3a.
Chair - Cecilia Sleap Cecilia is a member of Romney Marsh Flower Arrangers and Vanguard Club. Cecilia enjoys many creative hobbies, yoga and tennis. Contact details: [email protected]
Secretary - Catriona Themistocleous Catriona came back to the UK in 2001 and moved to Kent to be close to her daughters in London. Catriona enjoys gardening and her garden contains many of the plants that she had had in my garden in Zimbabwe. She joined Hythe Flower Club in 2002 and is secretary and programme secretary. Catriona says "belonging to a flower club over the years, here and overseas, has introduced me to so many lovely interesting people and to have been able to make friends with so many of them. Treasurer - Liz Hall Liz is a member of Maidstone and Vanguard clubs, a past Area Chairman and Trading Officer, and is currently one of the NAFAS Co-Ordinators for Westminster Abbey. When not busy in the flower world Liz enjoys her garden, embroidery and patchwork and walking beaches collecting shells and sea glass. Contact details: [email protected]
North Kent Rep - Jean Hoar Jean is a retired teacher of art and design and primary education . She has been a member of Hartley flower club for 11 years and is their club secretary. Jean enjoys the challenge of competitive work and trying new ideas. I am now a fully-fledged NAFAS speaker. Hobbies include learning French -with limited success- gardening and a range of crafts. West Kent Rep - Ann Mannell Taking adult education classes in flower arranging led me to joining Maidstone Flower Club. In addition to watching and listening to some expert demonstrators and speakers I have made some good friends. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my grandchildren, reading, knitting, visiting the theatre and travelling. Contact TBA
East Kent Rep - Deborah Ashton from Whitstable Club I have been a member of Whitstable Flower Club for several years and enjoy Gardening and Flowers. I am what you call a butterfly. Always looking for new interesting crafts, and various activities. I enjoy Ballroom Dancing at the moment, not sure my dance teacher enjoys teaching me! Love going to interesting places while traveling and also walking my dog.
JDSE&P Chair - Sue Shaw Sue is a member of Maidstone. She is a National Speaker, NAFAS Adjudicator and Instructor for Speakers tests and an Area Demonstrator, Judge and Teacher, and a past Chair of the NAFAS National Speakers Committee. In her spare term she enjoys gardening, nature walks and Rock Choir. Sue is also an Ambassador and compassionate neighbour for the heart of Kent Hospice.
