Kent Floral Art is run by a Council which meets 4 times a year in Faversham. The Council is made up of a representatives from each club and the Executive who are charged with the day to day running of the Area. The Executive comprises, the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, the Chairman of the JDSE&P committee and four other representatives, one from each of the North, South, East and West sections of the Area. The Executive is supported by the President, a Minute Secretary and Advisers. Details of the advisers can be found in the relevant sections of this site.
Meet the Executive:
President - Genista Spencer Genista (Genny) has been a member of a flower club for over 30 years. She enjoyed many happy years in Gravesend club joining in 1989 and holding almost every post except Treasurer. After a relocation to Chartham, Genny joined Sheldwich Flower Club. She was North Kent Representative for 7 years, Area Secretary for 6 as well as supporting the Area Show as minutes secretary. Genny continues to provide the much-needed role of ticket secretary. She says ‘I have enjoyed so many things I could never have imagined doing like helping with Gravesend’s club exhibit at the Chelsea Show, going to the Three Counties Show to represent Kent and having the privilege of contributing to the flowers in Westminster Abbey and have made so many lifelong friends through our organisation.’
Chairman - Gill Smaggasgale Gill is a member of Sevenoaks Flower Club in Kent, Southern Demonstrators in Surrey Area and Breakthrough in London & Overseas Area. She is a demonstrator, judge, speaker and keen competitor. When not flower arranging, among other things Gill enjoys singing with her local choir, painting, sewing and looking after her garden. Treasurer - Liz Hall Liz is a member of Maidstone and Vanguard clubs, a past Area Chairman and Trading Officer, and is currently one of the NAFAS Co-Ordinators for Westminster Abbey. Chairman of JDSE&P Committee - Marilyn Marsh Marilyn is Chairman of Sheldwich Flower Club and a member of Vanguard Contemporary Group. She is a past Kent Area Chairman and currently Kent Area President, one of the NAFAS Co-Ordinators for Westminster Abbey and a Kent Area Judge. North Kent Rep - Jean Hoar Jean is a retired teacher of art and design and primary education . She has been a member of Hartley flower club for 11 years and is their club secretary. Jean enjoys the challenge of competitive work and trying new ideas. In the Autumn she hopes to become a fully-fledged NAFAS speaker. In her spare term she enjoys gardening, nature walks, singing (badly), helps at her local hospice and is involved with speakers clubs.
