Class 1 ‘Optical Illusion’ – An exhibit.                                                                                                  
Space allowed: width 75cm
, depth 68cm, height optional. Staged on open tabling covered in pale blue cloth, 75cm from the floor, against a white background. Viewed and judged from the front.
Class 2 ‘Balancing Act’ – An exhibit. May be staged by 1 or 2 people (can be from different clubs).                                                                                                                                                               
Space allowed: width 92cm, depth 92cm, height optional. To be staged on a 92cm diameter circular base painted black, placed on a grey tiled floor. Viewed and judged all round.
Class 3 ‘Hiding Under…’– Petite exhibit                                                                                       
Space allowed: width 25cm, depth 25cm, height 37.5cm. Staged on dark blue card mounted on a perspex stand 15cm high, on open tabling covered in pale blue cloth. Viewed and judged from the front. May be brought ready assembled.
Class 4 ‘Natures Charms’- Craft exhibit.
 A crafted cover for a book predominately made from plant material. Displayed around a book.
Space allowed: width 30cm, depth 30cm, height optional, staged on open tabling covered in pale blue cloth.
Viewed and judged from the front. May be brought ready assembled.                                                  
Class 5 ‘Camouflage’ - An exhibit featuring foliage with at least one example of leaf manipulation.                                                                                                                                         
Space allowed: width 75cm, depth 68cm, height optional. Staged on open tabling covered in pale blue cloth, 75cm from the floor, against a white background. Viewed and judged from the front.             
Class 6 ‘Morning Mist’- A Pedestal Exhibit                                                                                 
Space allowed: width 107cm, depth 107cm, height optional. Staged on grey tiled floor against a white background. Exhibitor may provide their own base. Viewed and judged from the front.
Class 7 ‘Floral Interpretation’ - An exhibit. Using a work of art as inspiration, create a floral exhibit. The exhibitor must display an image of their chosen art work with their interpretation.                                                                                                                                      
Space allowed: 80cm width, 80cm depth, height optional. Staging using a cream plinth 30cm square by height 70cm on a grey tiled floor.  Exhibitor may use the floor area and move the plinth within the space allowed. Viewed and judged from the front.
Class 8 ‘Card Trick’ – Novice class - An exhibit.
Space allowed: width 75cm, depth 68cm, height optional. Staged on open tabling covered with pale blue cloth,75 cm from the ground, against a white background. Viewed and judged from the front.
Class 9 ‘Shadow Play’ - An exhibit
Space allowed: width 70cm, depth 70cm, height unlimited.  Exhibitor may use their own base. To be staged on floor with grey carpet tiles. Viewed and judged all round.
Class 10 ‘It’s All Done By Mirrors’ - An exhibit
Space allowed: width 100cm, depth 100cm, height optional. Staged on grey tiled floor. To include a painted black 50 cm cube, (provided, open on 5 sides, the sixth side being filled in and painted black) Exhibitor may provide own base.
Class 11 ‘The Unexpected’ - Imposed class
Space allowed: one third segment of a round table with a dividing board, radius 74cm, maximum height of back board is 74cm. To be staged on table covered with pale blue cloth. The table is 75 cm from the floor. Viewed and judged from the front.
Class 12 ‘Out Of The Hat!’ - Junior class. An Exhibit to include a hat. Space allowed: width 30cm, depth 30cm, height optional. To be staged on open tabling, covered in pale blue cloth The table is 75cm from the floor. Viewed and judged from the front. To be brought ready assembled
 
Show Regulations

  • Classes 1 to 11 are open to all members of clubs and societies affiliated to Kent Floral Art.   Class 12, Junior class, is open to all young people ages 5 to 16 years old.  
  • All exhibits will be judged in accordance with the NAFAS Competitions Manual – Fourth Edition 2023. Competitors should also refer to the document ‘plant material in all is forms’ which can be found at www.kentfloralart.co.uk/judges
  • All exhibits must be the unaided work of the competitor and must be assembled in the venue with the exception of Classes 3, 4 and 12 which may be brought ready assembled.  Class 2 may be staged by one or two people (who may be members of different clubs and societies).
  • A novice is someone who has never won a first prize at any Area Show.
  • All exhibits and competitors’ property will be at the risk of the competitor and neither Kent Floral Art nor the Garden Show organisers, or any part of them, can accept any liability whatsoever for any loss or damage sustained by any competitor.
  • All measurements in the staging instructions are approximate.  All exhibits must be staged within the space allowed.
  • Clarification of any colours used on staging can be obtained from the Competitions Secretary.
  • Aerosol cans of any description must not be used in the competition venue.
Entries
  • Individual entries must be submitted on official entry forms accompanied by an entry fee of £5 per class except in class 11 and 12.  Entry fees are non-refundable.
  • For Class 11- Imposed class the entry fee is £40.
  • For Class 12 – Junior Class there is no entry fee.
  • All entries must be submitted to the Competitions Secretary by Thursday 1st May 2025
  • Competitors may stage only one entry per class.
  • Applications should be made where possible via email on the official entry form and fees should be paid via BACS transfer with reference “Comp Entry’.
  • Each competitor will receive a competitor’s badge that will enable them to have complimentary access on each of the three show days.
Staging
All staging of exhibits (except Class 11) will take place on Thursday 22nd May between 1.30pm- 8.45pm when all exhibitors must vacate the building, leaving their area completely tidy by 9pm, and Friday 23rd May 9am-12.15pm, when all competitors must vacate the building by 12.30pm leaving their area totally tidy. (please note you are responsible for leaving the floor area around your exhibit clean)
Competitors must give clear instructions to the committee or stewards as to how their exhibit should be watered for the duration of the show. Please leave an adequate space for watering.
Competitors may not touch or alter their exhibit after the end of the staging time.
The Imposed Class will begin staging at 6pm on Thursday 22nd May and end at 8.00 pm.
Each Competitor must wear their competitor’s badge at all times.
Only officials, competitors and other authorized persons will be allowed in the competition hall during staging times.
The Junior class will be judged under three age groups: 5 to 8 years old, 9 to 12 years old, and 13 to 16 years old.  The age of the competitor on 23rd May 2025 should be provided.
Competitors are reminded not to post photographs of exhibits on any social media sites until after judging has taken place.
Judging 
Judging will take place on Friday 23rd May from 14.00pm. The judge’s decision is final.
The NAFAS National Judges will be: Chris Brown and Annette Urquhart
Class 12 is not eligible for the Best in Show award.
Awards
Each Class will be awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, together with awards for Very Highly Commended, Highly Commended and Commended as appropriate.
For all classes (except 12) prize money of 1st £20, 2nd £15, 3rd £10 will be awarded. This will be paid via BACS transfer. For class 12 all exhibitors will receive a certificate.
Presentations of Trophies will take place in the Maidstone Building on Monday 26th May at 16.00pm

Kent Floral Art reserves the right to use any photographs of any exhibit for any purpose.
 
Dismantling
Clearing of all exhibits and staging will take place on Monday 26th May.  Dismantling will not commence before 17.00pm and not until the Show Chairman confirms that it is safe to do so.  Dismantling must be completed by 19.00pm.  Please note that there will be no vehicle access onto the show ground until the show organisers allow it and it is safe to do so.   Please note that access after 19.00pm cannot be guaranteed and there is no access for removal of exhibits on Tuesday 27th May.  Exhibits not removed on Monday 26th May may be destroyed. 
Competitors must wear their competitor’s badge and may collect a further security pass to admit one other person to assist in dismantling their exhibit(s). This can be obtained from the Show Chairman.

Class 2 Wildfire – An exhibit. May be staged by 1 or 2 people (can be from different clubs)
To be staged on a 92cm diameter base painted dark red placed on a grey tiled floor. Space allowed width 92cm, depth 92cm height optional. Viewed and judged all round.
Class 3 Re-wilding – Meadow style exhibit.
To be staged on grey tiled floor. Competitors may provide own base. Space allowed, rectangle 120cm x 80cm Height optional. Viewed and judged all round. (Characterised by vegetative placement of plant materials,usually lighter and less dense towards the top of the exhibit, becoming  more dense visually heavy at the base.)
Class 4 Ocean View -An exhibit.
To be staged within a half-circle background painted pale blue on a 180cm diameter table covered in pale blue fabric. Space allowed width 148cm, depth 74cm height 74cm at the central point. Viewed and judged from the front.                                             
Class 5 Frenzy - Contemporary Exhibit.
Space allowed Width 90cm depth 68cm height optional, to include a black metal frame (provided at the show) width 80cm height 55cm staged on dove grey tabling.  A mesh plate width 15cm depth 10cm, height from staging 22.5 cm, being fixed within the frame. Viewed and judged from the front.
Class 6 Where Butterflies Thrive - Pedestal Exhibit.
Space allowed 100cm square.  Height optional. Staged on grey tiled floor against a cream background. Exhibitor may provide their own base. Viewed and judged from the front.
Class 7 A Wonderful World - An exhibit. 
Staged on a wooden plinth painted cream.  Width 30cm, depth 30cm, height 70cm. Set in a square space on a grey tiled floor 80cm width and 80cm depth. Height optional. Viewed and judged all round Can be brought ready assembled.
Class 8 High Winds – Petite Exhibit 
Staged on pale grey card mounted on a Perspex stand 15cm high, on open tabling covered in pale blue fabric. Space allowed Width 25cm depth 25cm height optional. Viewed and judged from the front. May be brought ready assembled.
Class 9 Bugs Life - Craft exhibit.
 A crafted bug presented in an appropriate setting. Competitors to provide own staging. Placed on open tabling draped in pale blue cloth against a cream background.
Space allowed width 25cm depth 25cm height optional. Viewed and judged from the front. May be brought ready assembled.
Class 10 On Safari – Novice class - An exhibit.
 Staged on open tabling 75cm from the floor, covered with pale blue drapes against a cream background. Space allowed width 75cm, depth 68cm height optional Viewed and judged from the front.
 Class 11 Wild Imaginings -Imposed class
 Staged on open tabling 75cm from the floor covered in pale blue drapes against a cream background. Space allowed width 75cm Depth 68cm Height optional. Viewed and judged from the front.
Class 12 If you go down to the woods today... Junior Exhibit.
Space allowed Width 30cm Depth 30cm. Height Optional. To be staged on open tabling 75cm from the floor covered in pale blue fabric. Viewed and judged from the front. To be brought ready assembled.
 
 Show Regulations
Classes 1 to 11 are open to all members of clubs and societies affiliated to Kent Floral Art.   Class 12, Junior class, is open to all young people ages 5 to 15 years old.  
All exhibits will be judged in accordance with the NAFAS Competitions Manual – Fourth Edition 2023 Competitors should also refer to the document ‘plant material in all is forms’ which can be found at www.kentfloralart.co.uk/judges
All exhibits must be the unaided work of the competitor and must be assembled in the venue with the exception of Classes 7, 8, 9, and 12 which may be brought ready assembled.  Class 2 may be staged by one or two people (who may be members of different clubs and societies).
A novice is someone who has never won a first prize at any Area Show.
All exhibits and competitor’s property will be at the risk of the competitor and neither Kent Floral Art nor the Garden Show organisers, or any part of them, can accept any liability whatsoever for any loss or damage sustained by any competitor.
All measurements in the staging instructions are approximate.  All exhibits must be staged within the space allowed.
Clarification of any colours used on staging can be obtained from the Competitions Secretary.
Aerosol cans of any description must not be used in the competition venue.

Class 8 – Exhibitors are advised to review the definition of “meadow” in the Competitions Manual
Area show schedule clarifications
Clarification to: Class 7 Wonderful World
The cream wooden plinth has a flat top measuring 30cm x30cm.
The plinth is 70cm high and is stood on a 80cm space on a tiled floor. Therefore, you are allowed let your arrangement flow into the space around the 30cm square top as long as you do not exceed the limit of 80cm square floor space.
Clarification to Class 9 Bugs life  Craft exhibit
The term ‘Bug’ is being loosely applied to include all types of insects.

Entries
Individual entries must be submitted on official entry forms accompanied by an entry fee of £5 per class except in class 11 and 12.  Entry fees are non-refundable.
For Class 11- Imposed class the entry fee is £40.
For Class 12 – Junior Class there is no entry fee.
All entries must be submitted to the Competitions Secretary by Wednesday 1st May 2024
Competitors may stage only one entry per class.
Applications should be made where possible via email on the official entry form and fees should be paid via BACS transfer with reference “Compentry’ and if space the first 3 letters of your family name.
Each competitor will receive a competitor’s badge that will enable them to have complimentary access on each of the three show days.
Staging
All staging of exhibits (except Class 11) will take place on Thursday 23rd May between 10.00 and 20.00. Competitors may not touch or alter their exhibit after the end of the staging time.
The Imposed Class will begin staging at 9.30 on Friday 24th May and end at 11.30. Competitors will be allowed into the competition hall from 9.15am and no earlier and must vacate the hall by 11.45am.
Each Competitor must wear their competitor’s badge at all times.
Only officials, competitors and other authorized persons will be allowed in the competition hall during staging times.
The Junior class will be judged under three age groups: 5 to 8 years old, 9 to 11 years old, and 12 to 15 years old.  The age of the competitor at the 24th May 2023 should be provided.
Competitors are reminded not to post photographs of exhibits on any social media sites until after judging has taken place.
Judging 
Judging will take place on Friday 24th May from 14.00. The judge’s decision is final.
The NAFAS National Judges will be: Margaret Trepant and Jane Rickard
Class 12 is not eligible for the Best in Show award.
Awards
Each Class will be awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, together with awards for Very Highly Commended, Highly Commended and Commended as appropriate.
For all classes (except 12) prize money of 1st £20, 2nd £15, 3rd £10 will be awarded. This will be paid via BACS transfer. For class 12 all exhibitors will receive a certificate.
Presentations of Trophies will take place in the Clive Emson Building on Sunday 26th May at 16.00.

Kent Floral Art reserves the right to use any photographs of any exhibit for any purpose.
Dismantling
Clearing of all exhibits and staging will take place on Monday 27th May.  Dismantling will not commence before 17.00 and not until the Show Chairman confirms that it is safe to do so.  Dismantling must be completed by 19.00.  Please note that there will be no vehicle access onto the show ground until the show organisers allow it and it is safe to do so.   Please note that access after 19.00 cannot be guaranteed and there is no access for removal of exhibits on Tuesday 28th May.  Exhibits not removed on Monday 27th May may be destroyed. 
Competitors must wear their competitor’s badge and may collect a further security pass to admit one other person to assist in dismantling their exhibit(s). This can be obtained from the Show Chairman.

Virtual Area Show 2020

During Lockdown 2020 Kent Area staged a virtual show.  There were 5 classes:

Class 1     Fresh from the Garden
Class​ 2    Recycled, Reused, Refreshed
Class 3    Afternoon Tea in the Garden - to include a tea cup or cups
Class 4    Isolation Bloom - only one flower to be used
Class 5    Forager's Delight

An amazing 103 entries were received from throughout the Area and all of the results can be seen on the Gallery page of this website.
Thank you to everyone who took part.  At these difficult times, these delightful blooms cheer us all up



Area Show 2019

Shirley Davis, Chairman of Area Show for Shows in 2018 and 2019 again created an inspiring show under the title "Enchantment". 
Shirley and her team worked extremely hard to ensure that competitors and visitors had the best experience.  The Area is extremely grateful to all involved and particularly to Shirley for her drive and enthusiasm.  It was a great show.
